The Community Foundation for Independence is proud to offer the Community Impact Microgrant Program, designed to support small, creative projects that make a meaningful and visible difference in our community.

These microgrants—up to $500 each—are intended to spark ideas, empower local changemakers, and bring positive energy to Independence. We believe that even small projects can create big impact, whether through improving public spaces, supporting neighbors, enhancing educational opportunities, or bringing people together in meaningful ways.

This program is intentionally broad and flexible. We welcome applications from nonprofits, schools, community groups, and individuals with ideas that strengthen our community. Whether your project focuses on beautification, community engagement, youth development, arts and culture, or addressing an emerging need, we encourage you to share your vision.

At the same time, these grants are designed to support action-oriented, public-facing projects. Funding is intended for the implementation of a project—not early-stage planning or personnel costs.

Grant funds may be used for:

  • Supplies, materials, or direct project costs

  • One-time community projects or events that create a tangible impact

  • Efforts that are visible and accessible to the broader community

Grant funds may not be used for:

  • Salaries, wages, or contract stipends

  • Planning or administrative costs not tied to implementation

  • One-time social events that do not create a broader community impact

In addition to funding impactful projects, this program helps us better understand the evolving needs and opportunities within our community. The ideas you bring forward help shape how we continue to support Independence in the future.

We’re especially interested in projects that:

  • Create a visible or tangible impact in the community

  • Encourage community involvement or connection

  • Address a local need or opportunity

  • Can be completed in a reasonable timeframe

  • Make thoughtful use of limited resources

If you have an idea that could make a difference—big or small—we invite you to apply!
